Love the design concept for this chair. Mun’s aim was to make a product with out having any waste. A set of 4 chairs from a sheet of internationally sized (1220x2440mm) plywood without any left over. This is a fantastic way of thinking about sustainable design – setting limitations in terms of materials at the very initial stages of design. Focusing on what is already available. As well as there being no waste from this design there must also be low energy use as the some of edges for the chair will already exist on the large piece of plywood.
In terms of my own work this article has given me ideas for my COP3 project, where I am focusing on the sustainability of fashion and textiles, in the way that I could use the same concept of limitations perhaps by using standardised material sizes or lengths of thread for garments.
